Fast Waterproofing and Ceramic Application Solutions Over Old Ceramics

Surface Preparation

It is important to check the soundness of the existing ceramics. If there are broken or loose tiles, they must be removed, and the resulting cavity must be filled with CLASS REMİKS 10 thick repair mortar. If there are structural cracks on the surface, CLASS REMİKS 15 should be used. The void can also be repaired by bonding a sound tile.
Prior to the waterproofing application, CLASSSER should be used to increase adhesion strength.

Waterproofing Application

In wet areas such as bathrooms, showers, and WCs, prior to tiling over existing ceramics, a 3-layer extra-flexible waterproofing membrane consisting of a modified polyethylene film laminated between high alkali-resistant polypropylene non-woven fabrics should be applied. The wall and floor corner joints of the existing ceramic substrate should be treated with CLASS 1054 ceramic tile adhesive (minimum C2 class and S1 flexibility) combined with CLASS HYDROFLEX 120 and its auxiliary accessories (internal corners, external corners, pipe and drain collars) for corner and pipe detailings.

The waterproofing membrane is cut to suitable dimensions according to the application area and placed onto CLASS 1054 ceramic tile adhesive (minimum C2 class and S1 flexibility) applied with a 4 mm or 6 mm notched trowel. Using a trowel from the center toward the outer edges, ensure 100% adhesion of the product to the substrate without leaving any air bubbles on the surface, while removing excess mortar from the underlying layer. When applying the waterproofing membrane side by side, the two membranes must overlap by at least 5 cm, and these overlapping sections must be bonded together using the ceramic tile adhesive used for bonding.

After the surface has dried, it should be allowed to cure fully for at least 7 days, followed by leak tests conducted for 24 hours.

Tile Bonding and Grouting

In cases where ceramic tiling will not be carried out immediately over the waterproofing membrane, the surface must be protected from direct sunlight and rain.
Upon completion of the waterproofing membrane application, tiling work can proceed without any waiting period. Tiling should be carried out using CLASS 1054 ceramic tile adhesive with S2 class flexibility. For the grouting application, CLASS FLEKS FUGA tile grout, which possesses both water-repellent and flexible properties, will serve as an ideal system complement in bathrooms.
