Class EPX-140 – Water-Based Epoxy Surface Primer

CLASS EPX-140

It is a two-component, water-based epoxy primer material. It is a primer developed for slightly damp or dry mineral-based and concrete surfaces.


Description

Application Areas

  • As a primer on damp or fresh concrete surfaces prior to waterproofing applications,
  • As a primer on absorbent surfaces such as cementitious and epoxy-based screeds, plasters, glossy surfaces, and exposed concrete,
  • As a primer on a wide variety of non-absorbent surfaces such as glass, wood, steel, and old ceramics,
  • As a primer in areas requiring low VOC emissions, such as hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, and food processing plants,
  • As a primer prior to new applications over existing epoxy and polyurethane floor coatings,
  • As an intermediate primer prior to new applications over freshly applied floor coatings whose recoating interval has expired,
  • Used as a surface protector on concrete and plastered surfaces.

Application Information

CLASS EPX-140 can be diluted by gradually adding 5% to 20% clean water, depending on ambient conditions and the state of the application substrate. It is applied by roller, brush, or airless spray method. The prepared mixture is applied homogeneously onto the pre-prepared surface using the selected method. CLASS EPX-140 is applied in one or two coats until the surface is saturated and a continuous film layer is formed. Thorough back-rolling should be performed with a roller to ensure complete penetration into the substrate. The subsequent coat follows before the previous one begins to dry. The number of coats varies from one substrate to another depending on absorbency.

  • The material must be protected against water, rain, external ambient factors, and mechanical stress until it cures completely.
  • The epoxy & polyurethane topcoat or waterproofing material must be applied 24 hours after primer application.
  • It should be taken into account that curing/waiting times may shorten in hot weather and extend in cold weather.

Consumption

Depending on the quality of the concrete substrate; theoretical consumption values of 0.150 kg/m² – 0.200 kg/m² are recommended.

Substrate pore structure, absorbency, and similar conditions may increase consumption. Conducting a test patch on the target substrate for consumption control is recommended.
